Take a trip through the golden age of French musette and chanson with Belle Musette, specialising in the music of Paris from the 1930’s and 40’s. From the traditional waltz through to tango, gypsy swing and chanson (popular French song), this is music to inspire dancing and reminiscing!

Belle Musette, was formed in 2002 by musicians who possess a wide range of experience and a love for the music of Paris from the earlier part of the last century. As a radio presenter on PBS-FM so accurately said: “French music tugs at the heart strings”

Belle Musette, Jo Abbott (accordion and vocals), David Krycer (guitar, harmonica and vocals) with Robert Severini (double bass and vocals) have played Bastille Day balls, The Boite World Music Cafe, local restaurants (like the musette groups of old), private functions and the Famous Speigeltent, during the Melbourne Festival as part of the French community’s presentation to the people of Melbourne.

While most of their repertoire is gleaned from recordings of the past, they also include original tunes in the classic musette style. Add this to their, and their audience’s, enjoyment of the tunes and songs and you have a wonderful evening of fun and music.

“You remind us of our wonderful times in Paris” (audience member)

The members have used their own performances and studies in France to research and further extend the band’s authentic sound and repertoire.

Recent gigs include the Glen Eira Council’s Winter Music Series, The Surrey Music Café, Frenchy’s Restaurant as well as private performances.
