Michael Goldman

Michael Goldman was born in Germany and came to Australia at a fairly young age. During his early years he spent much valued time in the kitchen with his mother. After completing High School, Michael obtained a Degree in Architecture and went on to practice as an Architect and Project manager, but his mother’s influence in his early years inspired his real love of food. He
Went on to complete an apprenticeship in cookery, and embarked on his new career as a chef, starting work in his family’s Restaurant and Deli kitchen, then subsequently in many known restaurants in Melbourne.

He went overseas for two years to expand his knowledge and culinary experience and worked in several well-known restaurants in London and Rome. On returning home, Michael was inspired to open his own eclectic Kosher restaurant, providing a unique experience as the first Kosher restaurant where guests could enjoy upmarket international cuisine that conformed with dietary laws that pertained to Kosher cooking, raising the standards and style for this market. After owning and running the business for six years he sold it to local caterer, Tamara Ruben.

Michael then purchased the Cavalier Hotel and Function Centre in Wantirna where he opened the “River Gum Aussie Char Grill Restaurant, once again providing a unique experience for their guests with the use of (wherever possible) locally sourced products, unique Australian produce and recipes using witchy grubs, kangaroo, crocodile, possum and unique Australian herbs and spices.

Rounding off his career experiences, he moved on to manage a number of food and accommodation establishments in supervisory and management roles, designing menus, working with kitchen staff ensuring implementation of high standards. It is only fitting that he now owns his own business, providing private and corporate catering services.
