Booking / Enquiry

Afro Habesha is a 9 piece ensemble performing traditional and contemporary music and dance sourced from the richly diverse myriad of Ethiopian cultures, complete with horn section, pulsating percussion and the soulful vocals of dance virtuoso, Seble Girma.

Afro Habesha is Australia's foremost Ethiopian band. Soulful, vibrant,
aurally and visually beautiful, the group is fronted by vocalist and dancer Seble Girma, combining with some of Melbourne's finest instrumentalists, including the cream of Ethiopian-Australian artists.

Traditional Ethiopian instruments feature alongside a blistering horn section and modern rhythm section that captures the unique rhythmic idiosyncrasies of Ethiopian music.

Complex yet accessible, the rhythmically infectious grooves and exotic melodies are now stimulating strong world wide interest in Ethiopian musical culture, and has attracted some of Melbourne's finest musicians to this line-up: Ray Pereira (percussion), Paul Coyle (trumpet), Danny Atlaw (keys),
Adam Coad (drums), Leo Dale (alto sax), Abiy Sahle (tenor sax) and Duncan Foster (bass). Vocalist Seble is joined by Fikre in a stunning exhibition of various Ethiopian tribal dances including the remarkable shoulder shaking style of the Amhara while highlighting beautiful traditional costumes.
