Kane Alexander
Kane Alexander trained at the Victorian College of the Arts, The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York.
In 2000, Kane took his own cabaret show to the FireBird Café in New York. He played three return seasons there and appeared at many of America’s premier cabaret venues, including a three-week season with Karen Akers at the legendary Algonquin Oak Room. This culminated in a clean sweep of the 2001 cabaret awards in New York. He was named “Best New Voice” in the Theatermania Cabaret list, and won both the BISTRO Award, and MAC Award for “Most Outstanding Debut”.
While in New York, Kane also starred in the Lyrics & Lyricists Series, performing AN EVENING WITH JERRY HERMAN, honoring the work of the great composer for an extended run, and was featured in the musical ELEGIES, appearing on the cast album.
Before traveling to the States, Kane was a member of the 10th Anniversary production of LES MISERABLES, performing Marius for over 50 performances. He also performed in the Gordon Frost production of SOUTH PACIFIC. Other theater credits include ANGRY PENGUINS for the Olympic Arts Festival, ONLY HEAVEN KNOWS, MEDEA, and Follies.
In 2001, Kane performed the role of Billy Crocker in the Production Company’s concert version of ANYTHING GOES in Melbourne. He then was seen as the Scarecrow in the Sydney season of THE WIZARD OF OZ. Also in this year, Kane was a finalist in the Arts section of the Young Australian of the Year Awards.
Following this, Kane completed a tour with the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, performing THE MUSIC OF LERNER AND LOEWE at concert halls around Australia.
Kane's television appearances include GOOD MORNING AUSTRALIA, DENISE, THE MIDDAY SHOW and IN MELBOURNE TONIGHT, along with roles in LATE FOR SCHOOL, NEIGHBOURS, and WATER RATS.
More recently Kane performed the role of Willard in FOOTLOOSE at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney. Later this month he will play the lead character of Claude in HAIR.
